A New Dawn Has Arrived – Children of the Wasteland Released!

June 20th, 2010

Haha, looks like a lot of you guys beat me to the punch! But for those who don’t know, after a long and rocky development process, Children of the Wasteland is now OFFICIALLY released, and the file is available for download from the Fallout 3 Nexus, and soon directly from Children Of Cyrodiil as well!

We as a team truly appreciate the cheers and encouragement of the community, and we’re happy to see that your dedicated patience has finally paid off. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally here.

But as I said before, it isn’t even close to over.

The goal of the first master release of Children of the Wasteland was creating a perfect playable children mod, so as to establish an absolute standard for playable children mods, a basis upon which both the team and its fans can stand upon. This was accomplished through the perfection of the three primary pillars of the project: Enhanced Children (mechanics), the CUTE Body for Boys and Girls (appearance), and Childhood Beginning (story and lore). And that goal has been accomplished. Developers, supporters, and fans alike now have a foundation upon which a great many new ideas and concepts will be founded. This is only the beginning, and the best is yet to come.

Children of the Wasteland is most certainly a full mod, just like vanilla Fallout 3 itself. But also much like vanilla Fallout 3, it’s also a clean slate, a canvas upon which we may draw beautiful things. It was intended to hopefully become a modder’s resource, so that people can explore their own creativity, their own visionary perspectives on what it’s like to play as a child in the Capital Wasteland. While there’s plenty of reason to be excited today, no doubt there’ll be even more reason in the future as new possibilities for expansion are revealed. Just as today many of us can’t imagine playing Fallout 3 without mods, someday in the future we won’t even be able to imagine playing CotW without the additional modules that will be created by our fans and our community.

Not only that, we hope to support Fallout: New Vegas, and perhaps even Fallout 4 in the future, with luck that the engines are the same and that a porting job won’t be too difficult. Of course, things like Childhood Beginning will most likely be redone for the new game.

As we look forward to the future, we’d like to thank the Children of Cyrodiil and Fallout 3 Nexus communities for their ongoing support. Here’s to hoping we’ll keep you entertained for months, perhaps even years to come.

Best of wishes, and enjoy the new mod!

The Wait’s Almost Over: Movie Trailer Edition

June 19th, 2010

Hey guys and gals, you know how it used to say “To Be Announced” for today in the media section of this thread? Well, unfortunately I don’t have any screenshots for you today. But instead…

Surprise! Betcha most of you didn’t see this one coming: a short theatrical trailer for CotW! :D

This has been my little pet project for the last week or so. I did it almost entirely from scratch, filming all of the footage, figuring out which scenes and locations will work best, posing the characters properly, cloning my own character several times with different hairstyles and faces each time to get new NPC’s, playing around with sliders and camera motion,  trying to get the camera angles just right, manipulating the time of day until the lighting’s perfect, then throwing it all together with titles and transitions and animating the logo to that effect… I’m not 100% happy with the end result (I seriously couldn’t figure out what kind of footage to film for CUTE and I’m still disappointed with how that particular part turned out), but all in all I can say in general I’m pretty proud of it. =] I also learned more tricks about video post-production along the way, so even if this isn’t my best work, at least I got something out of it. Hope you guys enjoy it!

I’m sure many of you noticed that it’s not only today that was considered “To Be Announced”, but tomorrow as well. I hope today was a surprise, but I’m sure you’ll love this next bit of news.

With the advent of this trailer, I’d like to announce that tomorrow, June 20th, will be the OFFICIAL release date for Children of the Wasteland! The most major bugs (of which there were only a few) have been ironed out, the master zip file is ready to go, and I’m currently in the process of uploading it to Nexus as we speak. I’m also working on a download page where you can get it directly from Children of Cyrodiil, too!

The new description is up on the Nexus; simply go to the old page for Enhanced Children 1.5 (http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1903), and you’ll be plopped right on the spot where the download will be available when it’s finished, as we’ll be using that page as the new official Children of the Wasteland page on Nexus. All of the information has already been updated to reflect the mod change from Enhanced Children, so if you’re really excited, you can scan the readme for fun!

We’re just about to cross the finish line, guys! I hope your Sunday is open!

The Wait’s Almost Over: Epic Edition

June 18th, 2010

Hey guys, sorry I’m a little off-schedule today, but it’s been pretty busy and things are really speeding up faster than I expected, plus other things beyond the mod that had to be attended to. Good news is, the internal beta (ish) has been going pretty darn well, and Kiwi’s managed to root out a few bugs and stomp them out of existence.

Beyond polishing off the last few bugs, there’s still the readme to compose and the rest of the website to finish off, though that’s mostly on me to do, and I’m working as hard and as fast as I can to get it done.

Today we’ll be showing off the last set of clothes and armor, some of which unfortunately haven’t made it into the final release build but will be available as a separate download in the coming weeks. This exotic apparel is some of the most intricate and highest-quality stuff you’ll be able to get in the Wasteland. Enjoy!

Release day is coming and coming fast, and hopefully we’ll be ready for you by the end of the weekend. This is an exciting time for us at Children of Cyrodiil, and soon we’ll be rockin’!

The Wait’s Almost Over: Costume Party Edition

June 17th, 2010

Hello people, i’m currently loading the stuff on GECK, so the mod should be out real soon since all the art files (meshes, textures, etc) are ready and being loaded :) . As you can see in the screenshots, there will be some nice outifts for you guys to wear, not as many as i’d like maybe, but most have many color versions and variants, making the clothe count to something around 30 outfits i’d dare say (havent counted since i’m not done loading them yet). Anyway, good news is that we’ll add more soon, and some will come exclusively with our raider mod, which will be released a little later because it needs some more work on the plugin and some of its features (projecting release for last week of June or within the first half of July).

I hope you guys wont be disappointed by the update, even if there arent as many clothes as i would like, remember that most of the time spent modding was on upgrading the base body and all the base files, now that all that is done, the next step is going on with addons and new stuff for it :) . Be back soon with the release, it is comming ;D, this is the week, so cheers in anticipation.

- Kiwi.

I’ve got my hands on the internal beta, and so far I haven’t been disappointed. With it, I’m starting to compose more information for the documentation that’ll come with the mod, as well as creating content for the site itself. I’m also running around taking footage for a (hopefully) cool surprise later this week, so look forward to that! =]

For today, we’ll have fun costumes. Enjoy!

The Wait’s Almost Over: Dresses and Frills Edition

June 16th, 2010

I’m sure many of you have noticed the splash page that now shows up when you point your browsers to http://www.childrenofcyrodiil.com, which went up early last week. That splash page was but a precursor to an even bigger project that’s been under construction for the last several days, the results of which can be seen now, as today is the grand unveiling of the Children of Cyrodiil website!

This website will serve as our public face on the internet, the primary vehicle with which we will use to promote mods being developed within the Children of Cyrodiil community, and the one-stop shop for all information related to those mods. The front page is the first one you’ll see, and there you can get immediate access to news stories concerning developments in the community.

At the moment the website’s still being constructed, and so far we only have the News page up, as well as an About page for the Children of the Wasteland project. When it’s finished it will feature pages concerning the mods, a full list of features, screenshots, videos, looks into their development history and process, readmes, installation instructions, and even catalogs that showcase all of the races, hairs, clothes and armor that come with the mods! We’ll also be showing a list of mods that are compatible with Children of Cyrodiil-branded projects, as well as official “expansion pack” modules which can be downloaded to enhance your experience. You’ll even be able to download our mods and expansion modules right here through several avenues of digital delivery (such as direct HTTP download, torrent, and UseNET) alongside links to our mods at community modding sites such as http://www.fallout3nexus.com.

You can access the website by, of course, following the http://www.childrenofcyrodiil.com URL and clicking on the splash page. From the News page, the forums can be accessed via a link on the left navigation bar, or you can simply bookmark the forum at http://www.childrenofcyrodiil.com/forums if you want to jump straight into the community. The website will be updated throughout the duration of the beta, so keep an eye on it during the coming weeks as we showcase more and more features that will be available in the final release of Children of the Wasteland.

Today’s screenshots will be about frilly dresses, and just like how frilly dresses are eye candy for a person’s body, our website is eye candy for our community. Here’s to hoping you enjoy both, and as always, stay tuned for more!

The Wait’s Almost Over: Vanilla Edition

June 15th, 2010

It’s getting pretty busy here as the dev team starts to wrap up development on CotW. The internal beta test is (hopefully) set to begin within the next two days as the team begins weeding out bugs and adding the finishing touches to the mod before we push it out the front doors into the wild for all the world to see and love.

It’s been a long, bumpy road, and while I can’t personally attest to knowing all of the things that have conspired since the beginning of development (since I only maintain and design the website/forums and do PR-related stuff, and don’t really develop at all for the mods featured here at Children of Cyrodiil), I know for a fact that the developers have worked their blood and sweat off into making this as great a mod as it can be. So if you see them around the forums or elsewhere, be sure to give em a big thanks. =]

On the subject of bumpy, Kiwi wanted me to take a moment to pay dedication to Baduk, a developer who mysteriously and suddenly disappeared from our community without warning sometime in October, and has yet to reply to any correspondence from the team. I didn’t know him personally, but from what I’ve heard of him, he was a gracious and dedicated developer who worked hard to contribute to the mod. We as a team hope that wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, you’re in good health and spirits, and we hope we can expect your safe return soon. You’ll always be welcome here with open arms.

Today, we’ll be previewing our reworkings of the vanilla clothes. Enjoy the screens!

*salute*

CotW: The Wait’s Almost Over…

June 14th, 2010

The Children of the Wasteland mod project is about to come full circle as it inches ever closer to completion, and it’s only a matter of time until the mod is released. The internal team beta is quickly approaching, and is set to begin within a few days or so. It will likely last for approximately one week as the last finishing polishes and touches are made to the mod, and hopefully will be released soon afterward. There’s plenty more work to get done in the days leading up to release, but rest assured we’re working as hard as we can to get it out to you on time.

There’s a lot to be excited for, and several features will be unveiled in the days leading up to the final release, as well as major and minor renovations to our branding (which you may have noticed occurring in minor instances within the last several days). You might have noticed that visiting http://www.childrenofcyrodiil.com now directs you to a splash page, with a giant Children of Cyrodiil logo adorning the front. For the moment, clicking on the logo will direct you to the forums, but in a few hours it will lead you straight to the new, fully-featured website (mind you, it’s still pretty beta, so it’s a work in progress). The website itself will be home to a vast amount of information regarding the mod, including an about page, features, and even a catalog that will show all of the new clothes, hairstyles and races!

Even after release, there’s still more to come! The CotW team plans on updating several aspects of the mod to make them far more polished, so you can expect more after we’ve released the final.

There’s a lot to be excited for as we near the final steps of this long journey. We plan on keeping everyone updated in the days leading up to release, so stay tuned. And spread the word! Tell anyone who might be remotely interested in the Children of the Wasteland project.

Until then, here are a few delicious morsels for your enjoyment taken by Kiwi himself, who’s been working non-stop with the rest of the team for the last several months to get the mod prepped for release. We’ll be throwing more screens out there into the open as time progresses, so stay tuned!

Feet first into hell!
